Training Course of Application of Biotechnology            In Food Industries2006’ 
“2006 Training Course of Application of Biotechnology in Food Industries is one of Chinese government foreign aid activity to developing countries.  
 Being a kind of scaleable, economical, environmentally friendly technology, bio-processing and biotechnology plays the role of increasing the added-value of agricultural products, enhancing the nutritional quality and safety of foods, decreasing the cost of production, and relieving the environmental pollution. Bio-processing and biotechnology contribute 1/4 of total revenue 100 Million Yuan of Chinese food industry. As a main outlet of agricultural products, biotechnology will be helpful for the poverty relief, narrow the gap between rich and poor, food self-sufficient and sustainable development of developing world.          
 Due to the rapid development in the last 20 years, many Chinese food bio-products list on the top of the world. Some products, such as MSG, citric acid, industrial enzymes already have the capability to transfer technology to other developing countries, Chinese small scale food processing equipment shares good reputation in developing countries, turn-key engineering is also emerging.  
 Sponsored by Chinese Ministry of Commence, China National Research Institute of Food and Fermentation Industries (CNRIFFI) are going to organize “2006 Training Course of Application of Biotechnology in Food Industries”. CNRIFFI was established in 1955, which is the largest research agency and founder of many food products. CNRIFFI has implemented more than 600 research projects in last 50 years and won 56 state level and 120 ministry level awards. Technical beneficiaries have creates several hundreds of billions of RMB, some technology export to developed countries.
1. Objectives
To update trainees’ knowledge and skills of food biotechnology and bio-processing; to help trainees understand the general situation of food bio-products; to set up links with Chinese research agency and equipment manufacture, to have the basic concept of the bio-solution of the problem of food industry.

April to June, 2006 (40-60 days)

4. Course Contents
1) Lectures (Review of Food Biotechnology, Bio-processing/Biotechnology, Basic operation of Microbiology, Enzyme Production Extract and Application etc.)      
 2) Demonstration, Practice, Visit and Market Observation  Visit and Market Observation: Visit enzyme factory, beer brewery, and other food processing factories.                                                                                                                                          
 3) Technical Exchange, Business Negotiation and Training Report Writing  
5. Training Methods
Lectures, lab demonstration & practice, visits, market observation, technical exchange, training report writing.  
6. Language                                             
English  
7. Final Evaluation
The final evaluation for the participants will be done on the basis of the written training report test and comprehensive performance in all activities. Successful completion of the training program will lead to a certificate.
The allotment of marks will be as  follows:
a) Written training report test     50%
 b) Practice                    25%
 c) Comprehensive performance    25% 
8. Participant’s Qualification and Requirements for Admission
1) Recommended by the governmental organizations concerned.
2) The applicants should be under 50 years old.
3) At least two years working experience in the field of food processing, biotechnology or agricultural products processing.                                                                           
 4) Be in good health with no infectious diseases or physical disable which leads can not finish the training.
5) Be proficient to listen, speak, read and write in English.
6) Prepare a review paper or report on development of food industry of the participants’ country so as to exchange among the participants.
7) Not to bring family members to the training course.
8) To obey the laws, rules and regulations of P. R. China and respect the Chinese customs during the training.
 
9. Training Expenses    
1) The expenses of training, accommodation, local transportation, pocket money of RMB ¥30 /day during the training period in China will be borne by the Chinese government.                                                                                                                                  
2) It is participants own legibility to cover for the international travel costs include: visa application, round trip tickets, transit fares. Participant can apply sponsorship from government institution, employers, or international organizations like UNDP, FAO, etc. 
3) Other expenses such as: medical care, life insurance and domestic salaries are also cover by the participant.
10. Application and Admission
1) The applicants should be nominated by their respective governments. The nominated participants are requested to fill up the Application Forms, which should be endorsed by the departments concerned of their respective governments, and submit with valid Health Certificates provided by authorized physicians or hospitals to the Economic and Commercial Counselor’s Office of the Chinese Embassy (ECCOCE) for examination, recommendation and dorsement.                                                                                           
2) After endorsed by the Economic and Commercial Counselor’s Office of the Chinese Embassy, Admission Notices will be issued to the accepted applicants by the ECCOCE through the related government departments of the participants. With the Admission Notices, the participants are requested to go through all necessary formalities for entering into China and bring all the documents like Admission Notices, Application Forms, and Health Certificates to China on the registration date.
11. Non Responsibility
The training course organizer doses not hold responsibility for such risks like life, accidents, illness, loss of property incurred during the training period.
